Must have for Christmas Parties

Sunday, 15 December 2013
Memories of Baker’s Delight for me have stemmed back to as far as I can remember as a child. My grandma would take us to Baker’s Delight for a sweet treat at the end of the week when we used to behave.  We love getting our bread fresh for Baker’s Delight (especially when they are just warm out of the oven!!)
The past few Christmas’ Bakers Delight has been on our table and apart of our festivities (and full bellies) even if it was our loaves of bread.  I was actually surprised when I went to Baker’s Delight the other day to find out how much a Christmas Range there was and how well priced it was.
Bakers Delight predicts that Australians will continue their love affair with Christmas classics this festive season with over 2.5 million Christmas Cakes and Fruit Mince Tarts expected to be sold in 2013. Over 135 tonnes of sultanas, 73 tonnes of currants and 9 tonnes of cherries will be used in bakeries across Australia.

Fruit Mince Tarts are available as a single (RRP $1.70) or in a pack of six (RRP $8.50).
Made with real fruit mince and encased in traditional short bread, Bakers Delight’s iconic Fruit Mince Tarts are perfect for sharing with family and friends in a pack of six, or to indulge on your own.
A little goes a long way and only a TRUE sweet tooth could get through more then one of these. We have them at our Xmas parties and only buy one person we expect to be there, and of course they aren’t for everyone and there are always left-overs.

Matt, the girls and myself love these and look forward to Christmas just for these to be made again and also a Croation dessert our Nonna makes. But they are very sweet as mentioned before and very rich and taste amazing with a dollop of whipped cream or ice-cream on top. In our house we have a little kids table at Christmas and last year we had icing sugar in a thin layer on top and a whole heap of edible Christmas toppers for the kids to decorate their own and either eat or take with them for later.
Bakers Delight Traditional Christmas Cakes are available in large (RRP $15.00) or small single serves (RRP $3.50).

Of course, no traditional festive season would be complete without Christmas Cake. Made with real currants, sultanas and fragrant spices and topped with delectable cherries, Bakers Delight’s Christmas Cake will bring back fond memories shared with loved ones from Christmases past.
This for me is a newbie and something before today I had never tried. It has been at Christmas parties in the past but never appealed to me and was something I steered clear of for some reason.
In my opinion it tastes like a fruity ginger bread man but so much more sweeter. I will no longer be steering clear of this as it is delish!!! For breakfast one morning I even zapped it in the microwave for 35 seconds to let it light heat through and it was amazing warm. I would say I actually prefer this in the microwave and warm then a cold cake- even goes great with egg nog.
Both products can be purchased from Bakers Delight bakeries across Australia from Thursday 21 November. Visit   for more information, or to find your nearest bakery.

Fave Christmas CD this year

RRP $14.99
Following his well earned ARIA nomination (which I still think he should have won), the ever popular Jay Laga'aia brings us his latest festive celebration album with all the cherished favourite Christmas songs, in his own inimitable style.

As always Jay and his harmonious voice (with in islander twist) wins me over every time. It is not often I will listen to Christmas Carols as working in an office for a year that played Christmas Carols for Two months leading up to Christmas absolutely killed me and turned me off them something shocking.

But when I was sent Jay Laga'aia's CHRISTMAS AT JAY'S PLACE
For review purposes I thought I better listen in with the girls just to see their reactions and what they thought of the CD. It is fair to say I stayed in their room and listened to this CD with them right until the last song. The girls were all danced out and ready for sleep, so I tucked them in and called it a night- but not before I took the CD out of their player in their room.

I then went and retired in my room only to listen to a few tracks again, before falling asleep to Silent Night. I remember because I was in that light sleep and then when it finished I woke up in a shock and then turned it off and went to sleep.

The three tracks that I LOVE from this CD would certainly have to be-
  • Silent Night
  • Santa Claus is coming to town
  • 12 Days Of Kindy

As always Jay adds his twist to all these songs and the truly have that islander feel to it. This reminds me of the days in NZ when we all sat around the fire and somebody would have an acoustic playing away and covering bands with their own twists. I love Jays voice and love his takes on these songs.

Hayley plays 12 days of kindy on repeat over and over and over again until she gets bored, which can be quite difficult.  But the other tracks are listed below.

Track Listing
1. Jingle Bell Rock
2. Santa Claus Is Coming To Town
3. 12 Days of Kindy
4. Little Drummer Boy
5. Silent Night
6. Yes This Is A Christmas Tree
7. Here Comes Santa Claus
8. Mary’s Boy Child
9. Christmas Must Be Tonight
10. O Little Town Of Bethlehem
11. Christmas Medley
12. Feliz Navidad

Thank you Harry's Ice Cream You have created a MONSTER!!

Sunday, 8 December 2013
So this weekend anybody would have thought it was some kind of ice cream eating competition. On our loungeroom coffee table were two tubs of Harry’s ice cream and within 5 minutes there were none, instead in their place were some bongo drums and spoons for the kids to play music with.

Matt had Pavlova in his mits and I had Sticky Date Pudding, before we knew it our spoons were hitting the bottom of the tub. I have never in my life finished a bowl of ice cream let alone a little tub, I was shocked… How many hours of walking would it take to work that little sitting off, but I didn’t mind as every mouth full was heaven and totally worth it!!

We had finished (well demolished these to tubs) and Matt gave me these eyes as if to say- the Raspberry Cheesecake had his name all over it.. But that was fine with me as I have never been a cheesecake girl and he was a-ok  to polish that baby off. He didn’t though, he saved this pot for the next day.

So going by the start of this post you may have been able to tell we got sent three tubs of Harry’s Ice Cream to try out and see what we thought.

Obviously my favourite was the Sticky Date Pudding. Hands down the best ice cream I have eaten in my ENTIRE LIFE. When you get to an oozey bit of caramel it is like a delicious explosion in your mouth that I could not get enough of. Harry’s are very generous with the caramel as well, you will find loads of liquid gold in your ice cream.

My partners favourite was of course the pavlova ice cream, demolishing his in just over 2 minutes (I should have made a video to post!!) I also tried the pavlova and I could have sworn that Harry’s mashed up a pavlova froze it and put it in a tub! This is like the real deal and there is even like little pav pieces throughout the ice cream.

Lastly there was the Raspberry cheesecake Ice Cream, for review purposes I did try this but I am not a cheesecake girl so I knew this wouldn’t tick any boxes for me. My partner on the other hand loved it and even through some fruit into the mix and ate it like that.

Each tubs carry 500mLs of amazing ice cream ready to eat and enjoy.

I have seen some other flavours pop up here in there like lamingtons but I am not sure if they are limited or if they are apart of their every day line.

All the Harry’s Ice cream flavours I tried are available at Woolworths and selected IGA stores throughout Australia and will only set you back $6.99

Better yet this product is made locally in Brunswick, which makes me love it all the more J
