PARENTING// Kid's hair driving my crazy // Scunci

Thursday, 28 July 2016
To be quite frank my hair skills suck! I can do your standard ponies, buns, plaits and that is about as far as my hair skill goes. So instead of learning how to “do hair” I just tend to find cute accessories that help my cause and make the hair look better then plain and simple.

I hate even doing my hair, thats why it lives up in a bun. And when I style it and it doesn't work I am the type of person who will go to the salon and have it all chopped off out of frustration.

I do however need to brush up on my braid skills as this is something I have always wanted to learn, so might jump onto the Scunci sight and see what videos they have popped up.

With my girls they both have their own styles- Hayley is very reserved where as Madison is out there and a little quirky. Hayley also doesn’t like having anyone touch or style her hair and tend to do it on her own.

Scunci were kind enough to send out the girls some hair goodness (which they haven’t stopped talking about since the day they arrived).

So with so many pretty little pieces including clips, elastics and headbands I knew my Pre-School hair game would soon become on point. I had a play the first few times, before decided I needed to game up and find some fun ideas (as Madison is known for taking her hair out)!

Asking Madison what her favourite accessory was she quickly told me it was the Princess Crown headband pack. So I put pen to paper (not actually) and thought of ways to incorporate this piece into a cute up do. And all I did was create a top bun and headband- simple but effective.

For me I loved the little packs that include all eleastics and hair ties so just about every look you can imagine. I saw a fair few little models sport this look so I thought I would try it on Madison. I must say since this day she's warn the double buns plenty of times and loves them.

Were in the middle of growing Madison’s fringe out, which Madison HATES as she has hair in her face but really doesn’t like clips. So when I saw the Daisy snaps I thought this might’ve been my way into fringe clipping success. Low and behold it worked a treat and even caught Madison a few times putting them in her own hair to keep the fringe off her face.

Hayley loves playing around with the products, but as she is both stubborn and has short hair (quite the tomboy) she doesn’t like things in her hair. Each to their own and there is not a hope in hell I will ever force them to do something they don’t like- especially when it comes to something as simple as hair.

I am a strong believer in standing by, supporting and letting them find themselves allowing them to be their own little people.

This is also where Scunci girl comes into play, as they are able to accessorize the way they want to in anyway while looking super duper cute.

BEAUTY// Kosmea Rose Hip Oil

Sunday, 10 July 2016
A mix between the cold weather that Winter has hit us with here in Melbourne, and my Graves’ disease- has left my face either A) breaking out or B) dry and scaly, both of which I don’t like or want.

And as anyone that follows my blog knows I am really bad at keeping to a skin routine and don’t even have a small skin routine going (unless you include makeup wipes).

Now from head to toe I suffer from a range of skin conditions that I wish weren’t there. For starters the stretch marks on my thighs for rapid weight loss after pregnancy. I was lucky enough to not get any on my stomach but my thighs paid a hefty price.

For me these make me very subconscious when in a bikini and will often stop me from wearing short shorts.

Then I have scarring on my face (on my left temple) from a life threatening car accident. I am not as conscious about this one though for some reason. And more often then not forget it is there until someone asks me, which quite a few people do.

And lastly but not least, since being diagnosed with Graves’ disease my skin has become an on and off sensitive playground. Some weeks it’s fine and others I can put products anywhere near it.

But since rolling over into winter it has become very dry and flaky, which makes me feel like I am shedding my summer skin (gross I know).

So this is where I start talking about a product that has actually helped my face big time and even surprised me.

Kosmea certified Organic Rose Hip Oil is a skincare oil, which has been rated Australia’s number 1 Rose Hip oil.

And this is the first thing that stood out for me with the product is the fact that from plant to bottle, Kosmea Rose Hip Oil and all of its processes are certified organic by both the USDA and Australian Certified Organic (ACO).

Also the fact that the Rose Hip Oil found in Kosmea is ethically sourced from Lesotho in South Africa. I hate the thought of any farmer’s world wide being ripped off and unfairly traded in order for us to have cheap products on our doorsteps. Being brought up as a youngen around farms and that scene I know first hand just how stressful and hard farmers actually have it.

But then there is also the plentiful benefits, which include and may assist with the appearance of:

  • ·      Scars
  • ·      Burns
  • ·      Wrinkles
  • ·      Stretchmarks
  • ·      Pigmentations
  • ·      Sun Damage
  • ·      Acne and Acne scarring
  • ·      Dry and Sensitive Skin

I have been using the Kosmea Rose Hip Oil on my face in the morning when I get out of the shower. I sit the glass bottle on the basin next to the toothbrushes so I have a constant reminder to use it. Otherwise I neglect my skin on a day-to-day basis.

I didn’t want to overwhelm myself and use it on my legs and other body parts as I can barely stick to just my face. So the next place I will concentrate on will be on my inner thigh stretch marks, so I will keep you all posted on how that goes as well.

To begin with I didn’t like the thought of putting oil on my face as I imagined it to just turn my face into and oily slick and would break out by the PM. And when putting it on my hand to begin with it was orange and thick and didn’t know if I could put this sludge on my face. But for review purposes I bit the bullet and ran with it.

It surprised me how well it soaks into my skin and within a few minutes I couldn’t tell that anything was on my face. The only difference was it was instantly hydrated and soft.

One of the first things I noticed after using the Rose Hip Oil on my face is that my makeup went on more flawlessly and stayed put. I've even started using this permanently as my primer before make-up and have found it works a lot better then my high-end cosmetic primers.

The next thing I wasn’t a huge fan on was the scent, but I guess it is as natural of a scent if any. With my extreme sense of smell, I didn’t really like the scent.  It smelt like I was rubbing fish and chip oil over my face. But luckily enough I couldn’t complain for long as the smell quickly subsided as it soaked into my skin.

The next thing was how it was instantly hydrated but also continually improved as the days went by. My pores when wearing makeup weren’t so obvious and I don’t know I just felt a lot more comfortable without foundation on.

BEFORE (aka absolutely horribly disgusting)

AFTER

After using Kosmea Rose Hip Oil I would actually no happily leave the house with a little bit of mascara and my brows.

To find out more on the Kosmea Rose Hip oil and all the other products you can head to their website HERE and check it out.

SCHOOL HOLIDAYS// Sovereign Hill Winter Wonderlights

Sunday, 3 July 2016

Breathtaking and truly unexplainable standing in the middle of the street of old time Ballarat; in the living museum that is Sovereign Hill as the snow fell around us.

Generally in my posts I start from the beginning and finish with the end, but I HAVE to kick this one off in rewind, as I am too excited to share with you our experience of Sovereign Hill’s Christmas In July.

So our night ended at 6:45 where we wiped the last of the snow (bubbles) off our clothes and hair. We left Sovereign Hill with our bellies full, our legs sore and our mind completely blown.  But lets get this going in rewind, because I like to switch things up.

At 5:45pm in Sovereign Hill the streets come to a stand still as there are people crowded around everywhere, Saint Nick stands on the balcony at the United States Hotel/ Victoria Theatre announcing to everyone that the Winter Wonderlights will begin and then a countdown from 10 begins.

We had the perfect spot in front of the Victoria Theatre so we got a good view of pretty much all of the main road. But after the countdown struck one the entire street was lit up in a truly incredible animated light display, reflecting off all the buildings in the street and snow fell. It wasn’t real snow and was actually bubbles, which was great all you need is water and you have yourself a shower.

Madison knew no different though and I let them believe it was snow, as I would have totally bought it as a kid as well. Us big kids while dodging the bubbles were in complete awe listening to the traditional carols and watching the buildings come to life in what I can only describe as indescribable.

Previous to the light show our morning and afternoon as filled with activities that Sovereign Hill had to offer as part of their Christmas in July special as well as their every day activities.

So know maybe lets rewind this to the beginning of the day now I have the major attraction and excitement out of the way.

So our morning started with the opening of Sovereign Hill at 10am, which was earlier then I had planned on being there- but Mr M was in charge.

Of course Madison had to do all of the things I remember doing as a little one, so she started off getting her name pressed on a mini Sovereign Hill horseshoe in the Horses Shod located directly out front of the entrance. She was very impressed with her customised horseshoe, which she watched getting pressed.

Then next was my all time favourite thing as a kid, the sweet shop so we watched the sweet making where they made melon hard-boiled sweets. The smell just walking into the workshop brought back a world of childhood memories like those of, which I came along on a high school excursion many years before. We of course had to buy the famous raspberry drops, musk drops and Madison took home the fairy drops.

Throughout the day you found us wandering in and out of all the shop fronts and exhibiting all the olden day pieces Sovereign Hill had out on display.

We also made a pit stop into the candle shop where Madison tried her hand at dip dying her lumpy candle, which Matt and I always giggle about (inside joke I am sure most parents can relate to).

But Matt gave Madison a hand and her candle turned out quite perfect if I’m honest- big ups to Dad for helping.

After Madison made her candle we wandered over to the bowling alley where Madison attempted to have a bowl, she wasn’t too keen on the olden day bowling as it required walking to the end and putting the pins up- first world problems right there.

If you've been to Sovereign Hill as part of a school excursion then you would have definitely sat in the Sovereign Hill School and tried your hand at writing with inkwell style with Quills.

As part of the Christmas in July there is a marquee set up at the back of Sovereign Hill filled with many Christmas activities as well as shows throughout the day. Madison made a Gingerbread man, which was $4 and came with two gingerbread men, candy and icing. We had lunch in here, food is quite pricey but what do you expect from a tourist attraction like Sovereign Hill.

We all loved feeling like it was Christmas again, as it give you a real US feel to Christmas being in the middle of Winter as apposed to the middle of Summer. Madison asked for photos with all the Christmas things every chance she got.

Of course when you visit Sovereign Hill you have to venture down into the mines, Madison's favourite part was underground and even told me it was something she will dream about :p It is quite an experience heading underground and really getting a feel for what life was like underground.

If you have time these school holidays, or even beyond as the Christmas In July runs until the 27th I am pretty sure, I would highly recommend heading to Sovereign Hill to experience it for yourself.

Madison’s final words on the day- “It was the BEST DAY EVER!”

BEAUTY BRAND FOCUS // Napoleon Perdis // WHAT'S NEW

PUMP UP THE BASE

Auto pilot brightening skin primer $39.00

The famous NP slogan-NOT TO PRIME IS A CRIME!

True story, Napoleon Perdis Auto Pilot was the first ever primer I used many years ago and truly was the turning point in priming for me. I actually made a post on their 10th birthday, which you can see here.

This brand new primer has a blend of beneficial ingredients such as algae extract, sorbitol, natural moisturiser and antioxidant Vitamin E which all assist in keeping skin hydrated and protected.

The primer is also completely PARABEN FREE.

Product comes out a pretty lilac colour, which is a gel priming colour corrective formula. It also smells delicious, which is the number one reason I fell in love with the original Auto Pilot.

LASHES ON FLEEK

Total Bae – Own it! SHADES Jet & Electric $29.00

So first impressions it was love at first sight. Now I want to make this clear, with every single product it is not for everyone and everyone will react differently when it comes to products.

And this is where my love hate comes with the product. I react really badly and my eyes go red and watery, but I absolutely love the results and how long and full of volume my lashes look when using it.

I am going to give it another go in case it was actually just my eyes and not the product, but I think for me this one is a case of loving what you can’t have.

The brush is also dual sided one side lengthens and the other pumps up the volume for flawless looking lashes all day long. I was actually asked if my lashes were falsies.

There are two available shades black (Jet) and Blue (Electric).

Ok, last but certainly not least are my hands down favourite sponges.

SPONGEY SPONGEY

Pro Makeup Blending Sponge $12.00

A certain brand that I don’t even have to mention made these sponges hot property and sent everyone on a mission to find the best dupe.  But I am going to put it out there Napoleon Perdis worked some incredible magic and made a make p sponge unlike the others on the market.  This sponge is actually sold out.

Can totally see why it is SOLD OUT as well, both affordable and totally gets the job done.

My foundation has never before been so flawless, I’m a confessed hand and finger foundation applicator. But I vow never again to use my fingers and hands, and as soon as this sponge is available again I will be stocking up.

A little tip- I don’t know how or why but these sponges work so much better once they are made wet and the access water is squeezed out. The sponge becomes soft yet dense and just a dream to use on the skin.

Another type of sponge, which isn’t sold out is the-

Pro Makeup Sponge $9.00

The stamp shape of this sponge confuses me, as I had absolutely no idea why it is shaped like this (sorry to the MUA who are probably laughing at how dumb that seems). But I did sneak online to see if NP’s website could shine some light on the design and it did! The large end is used to blend foundation and then flip to the smaller end for effortless application of concealer, luminzer and cream contour.

So almost like the previous sponge but a few more uses. I personally love the Blending sponge as the handle/base gives it a classy and luxe feel even though the product remains affordable.

My love for Napoleon Perdis is forever growing and I can’t wait to let the cat out of the bag with some amazing new releases they have coming up in the works.
