CLEAN EATS// Tilda Rice Review

Thursday, 30 April 2015

In Winter we incorporate a lot of rice dishes into the weekly menu, as it is so easy to match with just about anything. And pairing it up wasn’t easy enough, I take an even bigger shortcut; buying the microwavable rice packs. Meals are now cooked in Jamie Oliver style 15 mintues.

I used to buy my brown rice microwave packs from ALDI as they only cost just upward from $1. But since trying TILDA rice packs, this has changed and I love their variety that includes super foods.

The benefits of keeping the Tilda Steamed rice in the cupboard is they last a very long time, quick to whip up and are super delicious.

They are also:

·      Ready in 2 minutes in the microwave but can also be stir fried in just 4 mintues.
·      Gluten Free
·      Free from any artificial colours, flavours or preservatives.

The family and I have three standout favourites and pair these with chicken, beef, tofu and just about anything including a special fried rice.

Coconut Basmati-   Being half kiwi I am obsessed with all things coconut and have had it in most of my food since being a little Erin. I cook coconut rice from scratch but get frustrated at how long it takes to cook and getting it just right.

I have turned into a Mum this year that wants to be in and out of the kitchen as quick as possible, with meals that are quick to whip up.

I love cooking a coconut soy chicken and pouring it on top of a cup full of rice, the family enjoys this as well- for us the more vegetables the better.

Garden Vegetable and quinoa- This is a Mummies secret weapon, the vegetables are invisible and the kids (well Hayley) doesn’t know any different being the picky child.

Quinoa is an in thing right now and has many benefits. For me having a light nut allergy, I like being able to enjoy a nutty flavoured grain without getting the upset stomach.

I like to keep this one for the heart beef or lamb dishes, mainly Indian or Asian inspired. I have tried this with butter chicken but it just doesn’t do it for me, it isn’t the right flavour for this dish.

Brown Basmati and Quinoa- Ahh brown rice is like the soap in my shower; a MUST! I cannot go a week without including brown rice into a meal somewhere even if it means just as a side dish.

In Summer I lived off this stuff and most that time found ways to eat it cold- as the Summer days don’t suit hot meals.

I love the combination of having my two favourite grains in the one pack, which saves me from cooking quinoa and rice separately and having to mix them in at the end.

This Mummy cannot talk up this range enough and I can almost guarantee you will thank me later for introducing you to range- hey and there is no need to scrub the pots afterwards, you just throw the packet away.

If you jump onto their website like I did when they first arrived in my hands I think even you will be shocked at how big their range of steamed rice is- I just counted 22 varieties and I am sure that will keep growing.. Don’t believe me, check it out for yourself:

Mother’s Day Breakfast in Bed // Barker’s of Geraldine

A lot of Mothers out ther don’t get the credit they deserve! Don’t get me wrong I love Mother’s Day and appreciating my mother as well as my girls spoiling me. But I kind of have the same take on Mother’s Day as I do Valentine’s Day- I don’t need one day of the year to show my Mum I love her when I should be (and do) do this every single day of the year.

A lot of things like this these days are just a big money making scheme and I don’t like contributing to it and rather receive things that aren’t bought; like spending one on one time with my family (no phones and internet aloud)!

One thing I think all Mum’s out there should get a pat on the back for is the endless hours they put in of unpaid work. This is not a topic spoken about very often, men often find many different excuses such as I shouldn’t have to come home and work. Ok, fair enough you go to work and no doubt work quite hard but at least you get paid for that job and can clock off. A Mummy can never clock off, and can be quite demanding on you I won’t lie.

So for this I take my hat off to every Mother out there- YOU GO GIRL!

Now this brings me back to my initial reason for making this post. Usually Mother’s Day is a day where I take off my unpaid work hat and let Daddy do the duties for one single day (and Mr M does a fantastic job at this)!

So instead of buying things Mr M takes over in the kitchen and cooks for me, cleans for me and if I am lucky takes me out for dinner or for some special time away with my family.

So the last three years Mother’s Day turns into a kitchen free day for this Mummy, this Mummy hangs up her apron and goes on leave for the day. Well not leave but treats herself to a day off, so to speak.

I have been absolutely blessed though and cannot complain with the other half, as he is quite the cook in the kitchen. Mums tell me of their other halves not doing too much to help around the home, but I have won the lottery in this department. Not only does he work to bring home the bacon and allow this Mummy to raise her children, he cooks a couple of nights a week, hangs out the washing and does the dishes.

Usually on Mother’s Day I wake up to breakfast in bed, typically bacon and eggs with a spinach salad and then we go out for lunch. But this year I am hinting to Mr M to mix things up this breakfast and try something new.

So I was luck enough to come across a great recipe thanks to Barker's Of Geraldine –

BLACKCURRANT BREAKFAST CRUMBLE

Serves: 4 Difficulty: Medium
Ingredients

Fruit Filling
200g dried figs, quartered

150g dried apricots
100g sultanas
100g pitted dates, roughly chopped (appro 5 dates)
100ml Barker’s of Geraldine Lite Blackcurrant Syrup

400ml water
1 tsp vanilla extract

Crumble Topping
100g plain flour

50g rolled oats
100g brown sugar
100g butter, cut into cubes
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
50g hazelnuts, roughly chopped 50g silvered almonds

Blackcurrant Yoghurt
300g Greek yoghurt

1 tbsp Barker’s of Geraldine Lite Blackcurrant Syrup

Method
1. Preheat oven to 170C (150C fan-forced).
2. Place dried fruit, Barker’s of Geraldine Lite Blackcurrant Syrup, water and vanilla in a saucepan. Bring to the boil, reduce heat, cover and simmer for 15 mins, until plump.
3. Transfer to a greased 20cm oven proof dish.
4. Meanwhile, make the crumble topping. Put the flour, oats, sugar, butter and cinnamon in a bowl, rub together with your fingers into a crumble texture. Add in the nuts and mix thoroughly.
5. Place crumble over the top of the fruit mix and baked in the oven for 10-15 minutes, until brown.
6. Carefully remove the breakfast crumble from the oven, and set aside to cool slightly whilst you make the blackcurrant yoghurt.
7. Mix 1 tbsp Barker’s of Geraldine Lite Blackcurrant Syrup to 300g yoghurt until fully incorporated.
8. Evenly dish out the blackcurrant breakfast crumble into 4 bowls, and serve with blackcurrant yoghurt.

Recipe developed by Iron Chef Shellie (@ironchefshellie)

As with everything I try a recipe out myself, and test how hard it is (or complicated) before putting it to the Mr “chef”. I also don’t want to try something new and not like the flavours and screw my nose up to something he has spent some time in the kitchen making- maybe even a few failed attempts along the way haha.

BEFORE

AFTER

This recipe does say it is medium difficulty but I found it easy peasy! The family scoffed down every single last crumb and even asked for more it was delicious!

So I thought I would take this opportunity to show Mr M the recipe and see if he thought it would be something he could attempt for Mother’s Day. He laughed at me and said of course, so we will see how he goes on Mother’s Day. If you follow my instagram @ThreeBeesBlog you will see if this made it on my menu for Mother’s Day (I hope so)!

Barker's of Geraldine Lite Blackcurrant Syrup

One thing that makes this recipe though, and you certainly have to get a good syrup is the Anathoth Blackcurrant Syrup- it is the thing that gives this dish its flavours! I have been diluting this in ice cold water and been drinking it, my favourite fruit drink at the moment.

What makes it even better is the fact that it has been sweetened only with anatural sweetener (Stevia).

So my healthy eating routine won’t be broken this Mother’s Day!

GIVEAWAY TIME- WIN {Whitney Houston Tribute Show Doubles}

Sunday, 26 April 2015
Oh! I wanna dance with somebody
I wanna feel the heat with somebody
Yeah! I wanna dance with somebody
With somebody who loves me-
This May I will be dancing with Belinda Davids who apparently does a breathtaking Tribute show to one of my favourites in music- Whitney Houston.

As long as I can remember I have been planning my wedding day, with little changes along the way! And since being a little girl in high school, I have always wanted to walk down the isle to Whitney Houston I will Always Love You! And that is a song that has never changed; my grandma who is no longer with us also had this song at her wedding.

So when I heard there was a Whitney Houston show coming to Melbourne my ears pricked up and I was very intrigued.

The Greatest Love Of All – The Whitney Houston Show with the glamorous Belinda Davids singing live on centre stage is not only a brilliant tribute but a spectacular concert experience with a full band, dancers and theatrical effects.
Davids, born in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, began performing professionally at the age of 14. Her four octave vocal range allows her the ability to sing any genre but her musical heart has always been R&B.

Her musical inspirations as a child were Aretha Franklin, Anita Baker, Chaka Khan, Donny Hathaway, Michael Jackson and the one artist whom she still, to this day, honours in every show she performs, Whitney Houston.

The Greatest Love Of All – The Whitney Houston Show comes to Melbourne in May 2015 following sell-out tours to Dubai, New Zealand, Canada, the US and South Africa.

Mother's Day with LUSH

Thursday, 23 April 2015

Everyone would know by now I have a huge LUSH obsession and even have a whole draw in my IKEA Alex draws dedicated to all things LUSH- I even leave it open from time to time to get that LUSH smell flowing.

I have given strict instructions on May the 10th also known as Mother’s Day to the other half that all I want is LUSH; nothing big or expensive just things to add to my forever growing collection.

LUSH have gone above and beyond this year with their Mother’s Day releases and I know I could easily ask Mr M for one of each! I am STILL yet to come across a LUSH product I didn’t like.

Some of the standout products that I think will make any Mummy or Grandmummy super happy this Mother’s Day would have to be:

Yummy Mummy Shower Gel $9.95 100g

I think Snow Fairy has now met its maker and I think (even though I thought this would be impossible) I have now found my all time favourite smell from LUSH. What makes this smell even more special is that it doesn’t come out when the fat man in red decides to visit, but when we celebrating having amazing women in our lives- and for me; being a Mummy.

The scents that go into this truly delicious line of products, which I hope never EVER go away ( Darn you LUSH and your Limited Edition ranges haha) are:
Strawberry juice with murumuru and Fair Trade Organic cocoa butter.

Yummy Mummy Body Conditioner $32.50 per 250g

Then to really set this smell into your skin and make sure your skin is left supple and hydrated, I would suggest trying out this Body Conditioner. I know for some this price tag might seem a little steep, but this product will last as you need only a little bit. I know if I were to see this on an online store I probably wouldn’t purchase it, but once smelling this product I will be going into store and stocking up for the upcoming Winter months.

So basically you use the body conditioner in the shower right at the end before you are ready to jump out. You pop some on much like a wash and then rinse off in the water quickly.

This smells exactly like the shower gel, and has the same consistency and formula as the other body conditioner’s LUSH have.

Mother Surperior Bubble Bar $9.95 each

Of course by looking at this bubble bar I am sure a lot of you can see this resembles Mother Teresa, although I did have a little cackle to myself as I saw this as Mumma Smurf giving birth- but hey both are Mother related right?!

They say this smells like cherry blossoms, and I am sure I have used a product before from LUSH with this exact same scent.

With all bubble bars you just crumble it gently under running water and watch your bath as it transform into a bubbly heaven- I will be saving this for actual Mother’s Day.

Love You Mum Soap $6.95 per 100g

Usually when it comes to LUSH soaps you are buying chunks off a big log or loaf of soap as I like to call them. But with the Love You Mum it looks like this has already been pre made like this.. but when I look on the website it looks like maybe it did come in a bulk lot, and I have just received the flower off the soap.

This soap if floral scented, but in the most beautiful way and not one smell it too over powering. The scent involved are: Mimosa, Jasmine and bergamont oil. My go to fragrance is Michael Kors by Michael Kors, which is jasmine based and reminds me slightly of this soap!

Love Bombshell Bath Bomb $6.25
An oldie but a favourite of mine, also makes it into Lush's best Mother's Day gifts.

I love that when you drop this in your bath, rose petals unravel into the bath and float while you immerse in the beautiful scented water!

My bath bomb collection is getting quite low now, so Mr knows that this is quite high up on my list of things I don't just want, but need :-)

I think as an alternative to gifting Mum with flowers that in a week will die (if they make it to a vase) or chocolates that will eventually make their way to Mum’s hips, why not try something different and even create a little at home relaxation spa- Dad this will need your assistance with kids, and hey maybe even a massage!

REVIEW Sunraysia Heart Beet

Is there anybody out there that still loves a fruit or vegetable as much as they did as a child? For me the beetroot not only is delicious but has a few memories surrounding it and is always something I reach for in the fridge (or pantry).

Recently Beetroots have become the centre of attention in the health world much like almond milk and coconut water as being very beneficial.

A clinical trial conducted using Sunraysia Beetroot and Apple Juice, found that when consumed as part of a normal diet in healthy adults, it is proven to lower blood pressure, particularly in men.[1]

In 2011/2012, it was believed that almost 4.6 million Australians aged 18 years and over had high blood pressure, and that high blood pressure is the greatest attributor to the burden of Cardio Vascular Disease.[2]

My family is riddled with heart diseases and heart problems, so it is something I often think about and we all get regular check-ups.

So as you all know for a year now I have made some pretty dramatic health changes for the best, and have never looked back. I needed in on this beetroot juice craze, and I was lucky enough to have Sunraysia send me a few glass bottles to try out.

Recently launched Sunraysia’s Heart Beet is a mix of beet and apple juice, so I didn’t know what taste to expect.

WHAT IS IT?

Heart Beet is a delicious Beetroot & Apple juice. Made from 100% juice, it has no added sugar, preservatives, artificial colours, flavours or sweeteners. It’s pumping with great beets and is full of goodness, boasting 90% beetroot juice and 10% apple juice.

One standard 150ml serve of Heart Beet is equivalent to 1.5 serves of vegetables.

THE TASTE:

For me I knew what to expect when it came to beetroot, as I know its taste all to well. I was expecting a real dirty beet flavour and a hint of apple.

In the past I have tried beetroot shots, but they were not very pleasant and an absolute dread to drink.

This is sweet, but yet still remains to have the full flavour of the beetroot juice – the apple juice really tones down the harsh raw juice flavour.

I like that you only have to consume 150mLs at a time though as I don’t think I would be able to drink a whole huge glass—the juice just isn’t for my taste buds.

But like anything I will do anything if it will improve my health naturally!!

MY THOUGHTS:

I can’t give a verdict whether or not this stuff works, but I couldn’t see it doing harm to you!

After about the third glass (much like soda water) the flavour began to grow on me and became a juice I could drink regularly.

Never again will my health take the back burner, and it is now my number one priority as it is something I need FOREVER!

My girls don’t approve of this juice though, and I don’t think it is something their little taste buds like- so for now this is Mummies drink.
